Kraków by car

Kraków wears its royal past openly — Wawel on the bluff, a market square the size of a parade ground, and a medieval plan that came through the war intact. The historic core is largely given over to walkers, horse carriages and trams.

Driving in Kraków

Kraków is reached by A4, S7 and S52. The centre of Kraków is closed to through traffic. Parking in the centre is paid and marked by zone. Driving through the centre is restricted, so most drivers park on the edge.

Arriving by road

From the west the A4 motorway arrives from the German border, with a toll charged between Katowice and Kraków, while the E77 brings traffic from Warsaw past Radom and Kielce. In the centre, local driving zones closed to non-residents’ cars begin at rectangular blue signs and are easy to stray into, and cars cannot enter the Old Town at all.

From the airport without a car

Trains leave the upstairs hall of the airport’s Kraków Lotnisko station for Kraków Główny, the main station, stopping at the western suburban halts Kraków Olszanica, Zakliki, Młynówka and Łobzów. Buses 208 and 902 depart just outside Arrivals and terminate on the forecourt by the Galeria Krakowska mall, between the railway and bus stations. The buses need an agglomeration ticket covering Zones I + II.
