Leipzig/Halle by car
Leipzig and Halle share an airport dropped on the flat land between them, so an arrival can aim at either without much of a detour. Trade fairs, publishing and a reworked industrial belt give the pair a busier feel than their size suggests.
Driving in Leipzig/Halle
Leipzig/Halle is reached by A 9 and A 14. Parking in the centre is paid and marked by zone.
Where to park
Car parks near the centre include those at Hauptbahnhof, Augustusplatz and Burgplatz. Signs of a digital guidance system on the inner ring direct drivers to each car park and display how many spaces are still free. The garage beneath Augustusplatz has exits leading directly into the Gewandhaus and the opera.
Arriving by road
Around Leipzig the A 14, A 9 and A 38 form a triangle that belongs to the Mitteldeutsche Schleife, a double ring around Halle and Leipzig. The Innenstadtring traces the old fortifications around a largely traffic-calmed centre, and driving inside it is restricted. At marked tram stops where the lane lies to the right of the track, cars wait behind the stopped tram.
From the airport without a car
Leipzig/Halle Airport has its own railway station, served by S-Bahn trains into Leipzig and towards Halle and by some ICE and Intercity services. At Leipzig Hauptbahnhof, connecting trains are upstairs, and the City-Tunnel gives direct access to the tram network, with departures shown on displays at the exit.
