Pink brick gives Toulouse a colour that shifts with the hour, and its old quarter keeps the scale of a market town despite the size of the place. Aerospace work and a large student body set the pace, while the Pyrenees lie an easy outing away.

Driving in Toulouse

Toulouse is reached by A61, A62, A64, A68 and the A620 ring road. Parking in the centre is paid and marked by zone. Streets in the old centre are narrow, a smaller car is easier.

Where to park

Central parking is seriously scarce and many streets are closed to motorised traffic, so the practical approach is to leave the car at a suburban, metro or tram station used as a park-and-ride.

Arriving by road

From Paris the usual route runs south on the A10, A71 and A20, or alternatively along the A10 to Bordeaux and then inland on the A62. Arrivals from the Mediterranean coast, Barcelona included, take the A9 to Narbonne and then head west on the A61.

From the airport without a car

The Airport Navette shuttle leaves from Arrivals Gate C for the main railway station, calling at 4 downtown stops on the way. Alternatively, Tisseo bus 31 reaches Pasteur – Marie de Blagnac and bus 30 reaches Odyssud-Ritouret, both stops are on tram line T1, which runs on to Palais de Justice for metro line B or Arènes for metro line A.
