Montpellier is reached by A9, A709 and A750. The centre of Montpellier is closed to through traffic. Parking in the centre is paid and marked by zone. Driving through the centre is restricted, so most drivers park on the edge.
Where to park
At the outer ends of the tram lines, such as Odysseum (line 1) and Sabines (line 2), parking is available so drivers can switch to the tram. Occitanie and Jacou stations have parking too. The Polygone shopping centre also has parking inside the centre.
Arriving by road
Five A9 exits serve Montpellier: Saint Jean de Vedas, Montpellier Ouest, Montpellier Sud, Montpellier Est and Vendargues. The A75 from Clermont-Ferrand is free of tolls. The city centre is a traffic-free zone and poorly signposted, so traffic builds up quickly.
From the airport without a car
Route 620 is a shuttle bus from the airport to Place de l’Europe, stopping on the way at Montpellier Sud de France TGV station; signs in the terminal say Navette. At Place de l’Europe, in Antigone, change to the blue tram, line 1, for Place de la Comédie nearer the middle of town.
