What is Uber Comfort? It is a ride option that gives you newer vehicles with extra legroom and highly rated, experienced drivers.[1] It is the product to pick when space and a quieter, more controlled ride matter more than the lowest fare.
This page goes deep on Comfort: what it is, which cars qualify, what drivers must meet, how it differs from UberX and how to request one. It does not repeat the full lineup of Uber ride types.
What is Uber Comfort?
Uber Comfort is a ride type for riders who want a roomier car and a more experienced driver than the standard option. Uber’s rider page promises “newer vehicles with extra legroom and highly rated, experienced drivers” on every trip.
You can also shape the ride in advance. In the app you tell the driver whether you want to chat, and you choose a cabin temperature from a set of presets. Uber’s rider page adds that you can meet your driver with up to 10 minutes of grace before a cancellation fee applies.
People search for it as “Comfort Uber” or “Uber Comfort cars”, but both mean the same ride option.
How is Uber Comfort different from UberX?
The difference between UberX and Comfort is the vehicle and the driver. UberX is described by Uber as an affordable ride, all to yourself, for up to four passengers.[2] Comfort keeps the private ride but promises newer cars with more legroom and drivers with high ratings and experience.
| Feature | UberX | Comfort |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle | Standard car | Newer car, extra legroom |
| Driver | No minimum rating or trip count listed | Rating of at least 4.85, 100+ trips |
| Rider options | Standard ride | Conversation and temperature choices |
| Availability | Most cities (check the app) | More than 40 cities |
If you are weighing uberx vs uber comfort, the practical question is whether you will notice the extra room. On short solo trips, probably not; on a long airport run with luggage or tall passengers, likely yes. Uber’s pages do not publish a fixed price gap between the two, so compare both in the app on the same route. For other tiers, see Uber car types compared.
Tip: Open both options in the app for your exact pickup and drop-off before you decide. Uber’s pages do not publish a set price difference, so check the app.

Which cars qualify for Uber Comfort?
There is no single national Uber Comfort car list. Uber’s driver page says minimum model-year requirements are different by vehicle make and model, and that current eligibility is shown by city on a separate Uber page.[3] That is why lists copied from blogs go out of date quickly.
What Uber does publish is the baseline. Its vehicle-requirements page says a Comfort vehicle needs 4 doors and seating for at least 5 individuals, and that requirements may vary by city.[4] The eligible-vehicles page tells drivers to look up their city, and a car that appears on a list but does not meet the rules for a ride option in that area is not eligible there.[5]
So if you want to know what cars qualify for Uber Comfort where you live, check the eligible-vehicles page for your city rather than a general list. For the premium tier, see Uber Black car requirements.
A car being on a city list does not mean it qualifies for every ride option. Uber says a listed vehicle that does not meet the requirements for an option in your area is not eligible for it.
What are the Uber Comfort requirements for drivers?
A driver qualifies for Comfort with three things: at least 100 completed trips, a minimum rating of 4.85 and a vehicle that is an eligible model. Uber’s page lists no further qualification steps, and it carries no pay information, so any figure for Comfort earnings needs its own source.
Drivers who want to switch on Comfort should first check their city’s eligible-vehicles page, then confirm their rating and trip count in the driver app. The uber comfort vehicle requirements are the car-side rule; the rating and trip count are the driver-side rule, and both have to be met.
How do you request Uber Comfort?
You request Comfort the same way as any other ride. Enter your destination in the “Where to?” box, confirm the pickup and drop-off addresses, select Comfort and tap the button to confirm it. The rest of the flow matches other options: the app shows your driver and vehicle once you are matched.
Before the ride you can set the conversation and temperature preferences described above. If you want to be sure the product exists where you are, remember that Uber lists Comfort in more than 40 cities and says it is expanding. In other places you may see only the standard options.
Is Uber Comfort worth it?
Comfort is worth it when you value legroom, a newer car or a driver with a strong track record more than the lowest fare. Uber’s own pages are clear on what you get, but do not publish what it costs relative to UberX, because prices depend on city, time and demand.
A reasonable way to decide is to compare the two prices for your actual trip, then ask how much the extra space is worth for that ride. For short errands the standard option usually does the job; for long rides, airport trips or travelling with a friend who needs more room, the extra comfort can justify a higher fare.
