Arrecife takes its name from the reef that shelters its beach, and it does the working jobs of Lanzarote: port, offices, ferries. Past the built-up strip the island turns to black volcanic fields where almost nothing grows.
Driving in Arrecife
Arrecife is reached by LZ-1, LZ-2 and the LZ-3 beltway. Parking in the centre is paid and marked by zone. Streets in the old centre are narrow, a smaller car is easier.
Arriving by road
From Arrecife the LZ1 heads to the island’s northeast and the LZ2 to its southwest, while the LZ3 loops round the town as a beltway.
From the airport without a car
Bus 22 links Arrecife Airport with the town, with Bus 23 covering the route on weekends and public holidays. Both lines also serve the Estación de Guaguas, the town bus station with services to every part of Lanzarote.
