How to cancel a DoorDash account depends on which account you have. A customer account is deleted from the settings in the app or website, while a Dasher account is deactivated through DoorDash Support. This guide covers both, what to do before you start, and the reasons DoorDash can deactivate a Dasher on its own.
How to cancel a DoorDash customer account
DoorDash’s help center describes the steps under its article on downloading or deleting personal information. To delete, you first verify your identity with 2-step verification, and then:[1]
- Open Account Settings from the home page.
- Click Manage Account at the top right of your profile box.
- Select Delete Account and follow the steps.
The help article gives one blocker: DoorDash cannot delete your personal information or data if you have pending deliveries. Wait until any open order is finished or canceled, then try again.
The article also notes that the right to access, download and delete personal information applies to DoorDash and Caviar customers, and that some exceptions apply to deletion. It does not list the exceptions, so the Terms and Privacy Policy it links to are the place to read them.
Should you download your data first?
If you want a copy of what DoorDash holds, do it before you delete. The same help article says to go to Account Settings, click Manage Account, select Request Archive and follow the steps. The same 2-step verification applies.
Deleting is the end of the road for that data, so check what you want to keep: order history, addresses you saved and receipts you may need for expense reports. The help page does not say what format the archive takes or how long it takes to arrive, so we do not state it.
What the help page does not say about payment cards and subscriptions
Many people searching for how to delete a DoorDash account also want to remove a saved card or stop a paid plan. DoorDash’s help article on deletion covers account and data deletion only. It does not describe removing a single payment method or ending a membership, so check those settings in the app before you delete the account, and keep any receipts you need. How to cancel a Dasher account
Dashers follow a different path. DoorDash’s Dasher support page says to remove all of your scheduled shifts and then contact DoorDash Support to process the deactivation. Include the email address or phone number associated with your Dasher account.[2]
A few details from that page:
- DoorDash says it will remove your personal information based on state employment law requirements.
- If you have any Dasher accessories, you may dispose of them as you wish.
- If you want to dash again, you contact DoorDash Support to reactivate the account.
The page explains why the request goes through support rather than a delete button: it lets DoorDash reactivate you quickly if you change your mind. That makes it different from a customer deletion, which closes the account.
To stop notifications after you deactivate, you can uninstall the Dasher app, reply STOP to text messages, or use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of a DoorDash email.
What happens to your earnings?
DoorDash’s deactivation page does not say what happens to a pending balance, so we do not describe it. The pay page says Dashers on weekly direct deposit are paid for deliveries completed Monday through Sunday of the previous week, with a 2 to 3 day processing period.[3] Before you ask for deactivation, open the Earnings screen in the app, confirm your payout method is still correct and note any recent deliveries so you can ask support about them.
Why can DoorDash deactivate a Dasher account?
Sometimes the decision comes from DoorDash. Its Platform Access Policy says that violations can lead to losing access to certain opportunities or to deactivation. The reasons it lists include:[4]
| Area | Examples from the policy |
|---|---|
| Ratings | Customer rating below the minimum threshold |
| Order completion | Completion rate below the threshold; not completing accepted deliveries |
| Safety | Violence, harassment, working under the influence, unsafe driving |
| Law | Violating local, state or federal law, theft, failing to check ID on age-restricted orders |
| Screening | Failing identity verification, background check or screening criteria |
| Fraud and abuse | False sign-up information, sharing account access, manipulating promotions, spoofing location |
| Contract | Marking a service complete when it was not, breaking the Independent Contractor Agreement |
DoorDash says you are responsible for monitoring your rating and completion rate, though you may be notified as a courtesy if they near the threshold. The policy also says that if you lose access through deactivation, you are given instructions on how to appeal, and that the appeal process applies to deactivations based on violations of the Independent Contractor Agreement or the policy.

Which route should you take?
If you ordered food and no longer want the account, use Manage Account in the customer app or website. If you drive for DoorDash and want to stop, remove your shifts and contact Support. If your Dasher account was deactivated by DoorDash and you disagree, look for the appeal instructions you were sent rather than asking for a deletion, because a deletion request will not reverse the decision. Quick checklist before you cancel
- Finish or cancel any pending deliveries.
- Request an archive of your data if you want a copy.
- Dashers: remove scheduled shifts and check your earnings screen.
- Use the email or phone number tied to the account when you contact Support.
- Uninstall the app and unsubscribe from texts and emails afterward.
