DoorDash promo codes for existing users work like any other code on the platform: a one-time-use discount that you apply at checkout, usually with conditions attached.[1] This guide covers where a code goes, which offers DoorDash describes, how DashPass fits in and why a code sometimes fails. It names no codes and no discount amounts, because offers expire and anything printed here would be out of date by the time you read it.
Does DoorDash do promo codes for existing customers?
Yes, but the term covers several different things. DoorDash’s Promo / Discount FAQ, which sits in its help center for business accounts and describes codes entered on the Checkout page, defines a promo code as a one-time-use discount that provides either free delivery or a dollar amount off the order subtotal, before tax and service fees. Other offers need no code: a free-delivery offer can apply automatically on the dates it runs.
Whether you see an offer depends on your account more than on a public code. DoorDash’s own terms pages say so: one restaurant promotion states that it is “only available to select users as indicated in their account”.[2] That example is a new-customer offer from a Canadian restaurant, which shows how DoorDash separates new and existing accounts. An existing customer is more likely to meet offers tied to ordering history or membership than a general sign-up code.
How do you enter or redeem a DoorDash code?
On the checkout page, DoorDash says to type a general promotional code into the Enter Promo Code box. You can also open “Promo codes, rewards & gift cards” from checkout to see what applies to your order and select it. When an offer’s conditions are met, it should apply automatically on the final checkout page.
Two details cause avoidable errors. Codes are case sensitive, so copy them exactly. And a gift card code is not a promo code: DoorDash says gift cards must be redeemed in the separate Redeem Your Gift Card field.
Can you use coupons on DoorDash?
Only coupons that DoorDash itself issues. The FAQ answers the question directly: DoorDash cannot apply promotions found on third-party coupon websites, and it tells customers to watch for promos sent from DoorDash by email or shown on the DoorDash homepage. An in-store coupon is valid only at the restaurant’s physical location or through its direct website.
What types of DoorDash promotions are there?
The FAQ lists four types, which are a useful map of what a condition can look like.
| Type | How it applies | Main condition |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic free delivery | Applies on its own, no code | Valid on stated dates; cannot be combined with other codes |
| Minimum spend code | Code entered at checkout | Subtotal must reach the minimum, before tax and service fees |
| Dollar amount, item required | Code entered at checkout | A specific item must be in the order |
| Free item, item required | Code entered at checkout | The item must come from a named restaurant on a named date |
DoorDash’s Promotions category in the customer help center adds a longer list of terms pages for current campaigns, such as challenges, buy-one-get-one offers, partner promotions and sweepstakes rules.[3]

What do challenge-style offers require?
Challenges are the offers most relevant to people who already order often. One challenge’s terms describe the pattern: you place a set number of qualifying orders within a period shown in your account, and a reward becomes available afterward.[4] The terms say qualifying orders must be completed, not canceled or refunded, and that the reward must be used within a limited number of days or it expires.
The same terms show limits that apply to many rewards: the discount applies to the subtotal only, not to fees, taxes or tip; it is limited to one redemption; it cannot be used for alcohol or combined with other offers; and any unused balance is forfeited. That particular challenge was available only to select DashPass members, and the reward is chosen from the promo wallet at checkout.
How does DashPass fit in?
DashPass is DoorDash’s membership program. According to DoorDash, members get $0 delivery fees, reduced service fees and special discounts on eligible orders at participating merchants.[5] The benefits apply only once an order meets a store’s order minimum, and a purple DashPass icon under a merchant’s name marks eligible stores.
DashPass also changes which promotions you can see. DoorDash lists DashPass-only promotions among member benefits, and the free trial is offered only to users who have not tried DashPass before. The trial converts to a paid plan automatically and renews until canceled, so check the date before it ends. Plan prices change, so DoorDash points to its live DashPass page. If you are new to the service, what DoorDash is and how it works gives the background.
Why is my DoorDash promo code not working?
DoorDash’s FAQ names the common reasons, and the same list works as a checklist:
- A condition is not met. The minimum spend, counted before tax and service fees, may not be reached, or the required item is missing. A banner at the top of the checkout receipt says so, and tapping it explains the requirement.
- The offer has expired. Automatic free-delivery offers end at 11:59 PM Pacific time on the last date listed. Check the email or banner that announced the offer.
- The code was already used. Codes are single-use per account, even if you canceled the original order.
- A second code is in play. Only one code can be used per order, and DoorDash’s listed types cannot be combined.
- It is the wrong kind of code. A gift card entered in the promo box fails, and so does a coupon from a coupon site or an in-store coupon.
Tip: If everything seems to qualify and the code still fails, DoorDash suggests contacting support with screenshots of the promotion and your order.
Where should you look for current offers?
Stay with sources DoorDash controls: the promo list at checkout, DoorDash emails, the homepage, and the help center’s Promotions category for the terms. To weigh fees across services, see how to compare food delivery app costs.
A code listed on a coupon site cannot be redeemed on DoorDash, so never pay for a code or enter account details to get one.
