Dasher Direct was DoorDash’s banking program for couriers, and it is a legacy product now: DoorDash has replaced it with DoorDash Crimson. If you are looking for the Dasher Direct card today, the account you can actually apply for is Crimson, a deposit account with a Visa debit card that lives inside the Dasher app.[1]
This page explains what Dasher Direct was, what replaced it, and how the card, the ATM access and the fees work in the replacement.
What is Dasher Direct?
Dasher Direct was a banking program that DoorDash offered Dashers as a way to get paid, with features such as Instant Pay and cash back rewards. People often search for it as the Dasher Direct card, the DoorDash debit card or the Dasher card, and some call it a Dasher Direct prepaid card, even though what DoorDash now describes is a bank account rather than a prepaid product.
The question “what is Dasher Direct” has a short answer in the present tense: a former way to receive earnings on a card. DoorDash’s help center describes a move to a new partnership with improved offerings and the end of the old program.
Its successor works differently in one important way. The Crimson account is established by Starion Bank, Member FDIC, and DoorDash itself says it is a technology company, not a bank.
Is the Dasher Direct card still available?
The Dasher Direct card is no longer available: DoorDash’s help center says the DasherDirect program ended on April 1, 2025, and it tells Dashers about Crimson instead.[2]
For a Dasher the practical effect is a change of destination, not of habit. Once a Crimson application is approved, the default payout method switches to the new account automatically, and earnings arrive after every dash at no fee. Tips are added to the same account. For the full pay breakdown, see how DoorDash drivers get paid.
One related option stays separate. Fast Pay, the paid daily cash-out to a linked debit card, cannot be used together with Crimson, and you can switch back to weekly direct deposit from the Earnings screen if you prefer it. If you already hold an old card, check your account in the Dasher app for the current status of the balance. Other apps offer similar cash-out options, covered in our guide to gig apps that pay same day.
Tip: Searches for the Dasher Direct app and Dasher Direct login now lead to the same place: the Dasher app. Crimson has no separate app, and you open it from the Earnings tab.
How to get a Dasher Direct card
To get a Dasher Direct style card today you apply for DoorDash Crimson in the Earnings tab of the Dasher app and follow the instructions on screen. DoorDash lists no credit check and no fee to apply, though successful ID verification is required.
You confirm the personal details, address and Social Security number you gave when you created your Dasher account, and in some cases DoorDash asks for a government ID. Many people are approved right away. If more information is needed, a status update appears in the app, and the review can take up to 3 business days.
The physical card can take 7-10 business days to arrive, but the virtual card and account details are available as soon as you are approved. You can use the virtual card details for online purchases and bank transfers, and add the card to Apple Wallet, Google Wallet or Samsung Wallet while you wait.
If the card is lost, tap “Replace your card” in the Crimson Hub. You get a new virtual card at once and a new physical card is mailed, with a $5 fee for lost or damaged cards charged to the account.
How to use the Dasher Direct card and account
How to use the Dasher Direct card in its current form is simple: spend it anywhere Visa debit cards are accepted, and manage everything inside the Dasher app. Your balance appears in the Earnings tab, and the account and routing numbers for direct deposit sit in the Account Details section of the Crimson Hub.
Starion says not to use the card number for direct deposit, and DoorDash points to the account and routing numbers shown in the app.[3] ACH deposits can take up to 3 days to post, so a missing deposit is first checked against those numbers. Starion’s own mobile app does not show a Crimson account, so everything stays in the Dasher app.
If a Dasher account is deactivated, access to the Crimson account and its funds continues, either at an ATM or through the online banking portal that DoorDash links from its FAQ. That is the closest equivalent to the old Dasher Direct login for people who no longer dash.
Disputes and suspicious transactions go to DoorDash Crimson Support, not to Starion customer service, and you should say “Crimson” when you call. Starion representatives cannot see Crimson account details.
Dasher Direct ATM access, cash and fees
Dasher Direct ATM access today means Crimson ATM access: the account includes 8 free in-network ATM withdrawals per calendar month at about 40,000 MoneyPass ATMs, and each one after that costs $2.50. So you can use a DoorDash card at an ATM, and the DoorDash ATM network is simply MoneyPass, with fees that depend on where you withdraw.
| Item | Amount (USD) | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| In-network ATM withdrawals | $0 for 8 per month | MoneyPass ATMs, per calendar month |
| Extra in-network withdrawal | $2.50 each | After the 8th in a month |
| Out-of-network ATM | $2.50 | Operator may add its own fee |
| Lost or damaged card | $5 | Replacement card |
| Cash load at a store | $2 | Flat fee, per transaction |
Cash can also go in. Cash load lets you add money at over 60,000 retail locations, including Walmart, CVS, Walgreens and Dollar General, by showing a barcode from the app to the cashier. Each load is between $20 and $500, with limits of 3 loads or $1,000 total in a rolling period, and the money typically lands within 20 minutes.[4] For cash out, many stores with tap-to-pay offer cash back at checkout, though store limits and fees vary, and some stores cap it at $20, $40, $60 or $100 per transaction.

Cash back, benefits and whether it is worth it
Is Dasher Direct worth it today? The better question is whether Crimson suits you, and the verifiable benefits are modest and specific. The account currently offers cash back on gas and EV charging purchases, with gas rewards limited to $600 in total spend per calendar month and paid at the pump only. Rewards go to a separate sub-balance that you redeem to your available balance.
A separate pilot for select Dashers raises gas cash back to 5%, adds fee-free overdraft protection and free cash loads at select retailers once you receive $500 or more in qualified direct deposits in a calendar month. DoorDash says to check the Discover More section of the Crimson Hub to see whether you are eligible, and the benefits are optional.[5]
Compared with weekly direct deposit plus Fast Pay, the trade-off is mostly fees and speed. Fast Pay costs $1.99 per cash-out and works once per day with a linked debit card, not a prepaid card.[6] Crimson pays after every dash at no fee, but ties your earnings to a DoorDash-linked account with its own fee schedule. Read the Deposit Account Agreement and Fee Schedule in the app before you decide, because that is where the full limits live.
