At Frankfurt Airport
Frankfurt Airport sits in Frankfurt, Germany’s fifth-largest city. It is also known as Frankfurt Main Airport. Frankfurt Airport has 2 terminals: T1 and T3.
Picking up and returning
Shuttles at the airport
The SkyLine people mover links the terminals, stopping at the A/Z, B and C gates of Terminal 1 and once in Terminal 3, with separate cars and entrances for Schengen and non-Schengen passengers. A regular bus also runs between terminals, and the long-term holiday car park south of the runways is tied to the terminals by shuttle bus.
Driving to the airport
The airport lies in the Frankfurt City Forest right beside the Frankfurter Kreuz, the interchange where the A3 meets the A5. At Terminal 1 the departures and arrivals levels have their own street approaches, and multilevel garages, mostly underground, line the terminals.
Public transport into town
The regional station sits at Terminal 1, concourse B, and besides S-Bahn trains it is served by Regional Express services towards Saarbrücken, Koblenz or Würzburg, an extra if sparser link to Frankfurt Central Station. The Fernbahnhof for long-distance trains lies between the A 3 and the B43, reached from Terminal 1 by a pedestrian corridor over the Autobahn, and Terminal 1’s arrivals level has a bus station.
Other airports near Frankfurt
Frankfurt has 1 more airport: Hahn Airport (HHN).

Frequently asked questions
Germany: which side of the road do they drive on?
On the right. Speed limits are posted at the roadside and differ between towns, open roads and motorways.
Which currency will I be charged in?
Prices are usually set in EUR. The rental company sets both the price and the deposit, and shows them before you book.
Can I drive the car into another country?
Often yes within the EU, but never assume it. Crossing a border has to be allowed by the rental company and usually costs extra, so check the terms before you book.
Do I need an International Driving Permit?
An EU or EEA licence is enough.
What are the speed limits in Germany?
50 km/h in towns, 100 km/h on open roads, 130 km/h on motorways.
Are the motorways tolled?
Motorways are free.
