Rhodes by car

Rhodes holds the largest inhabited medieval town in the Mediterranean, built by the Knights and walled against the water. Past the gates the island stretches far enough that its villages, ruins and beaches need a proper set of national roads.

Driving in Rhodes

Rhodes is reached by Greek National Road 95, Greek National Road 100 and Rhodes Town Ring Road. Parking in the centre is paid and marked by zone. Streets in the old centre are narrow, a smaller car is easier.

Where to park

Spaces in the downtown area and near the old town are scarce, a problem that grows in summer when the number of vehicles more than doubles.

Arriving by road

Province road 2, continuing as 21, runs along the west coast to Kamiros and passes the airport, while two-lane Province Avenue 4 follows the east coast to Kallithea and Faliraki. The Rhodes Town Ring Road is a four-lane expressway only in its first phase, from the new marina to the Kallithea avenue, with later phases still pending.

From the airport without a car

The airport is served by RODA, the municipal bus company, on a line along the north-west coast. Buses of both island operators stop at the Neá Agorá (New Market), the main bus terminal in Rhodes city, while RODA’s town lines use a separate stop on the Mandraki sea promenade opposite it.
