Uber rewards program – a complete guide to Uber Points

If you are happy with the services offered by Uber, and order rides frequently, you should consider joining Uber Rewards. This way, you’ll get access to special perks and an enhanced customer experience.

What is Uber Rewards?

Uber Rewards is a loyalty program that allows users to earn points as they use one of the best delivery apps out there in 2020. When the users of Uber accumulate enough points, they reach specific status levels, which allow them to make use of the benefits, receive rewards and help keep the cost of Uber down. Depending on the type of ride, for each dollar you spend on Uber services you’ll get a different number of Uber Points.

  • You get 1 point for every dollar spent if you choose UberPool, ExpressPool or Uber Eats
  • You get 2 points for every dollar spent if you choose UberX, UberXL, or WAV
  • You get 3 points for every dollar spent if you choose UberBlack

Apart from the perks that you’ll receive for different status levels, for every 500 points earned, $5 will be transferred to your account. The spending cycle of Uber Rewards lasts 6 months. If you reach a certain status level in the current spending cycle, it will still be active in the next 6-month cycle.

How to earn points on rides and Uber Eats

Uber Rewards program is not available everywhere. If you want to check whether you can join Uber Rewards, login into your Uber app, select the “Menu” icon and choose “Uber Rewards”. At the bottom of the screen, you will see “Join for free”. After you’ve clicked that, you’ll be presented with the Uber Rewards Terms and Conditions. If you tap on “Accept”, you’ll become a member of Uber Rewards.

Okay, and now what? If the Uber Rewards loyalty program is active in your area and you have successfully gone through the previous steps, all that you have to do now is to spend money on Uber services. It’s best not to focus on points and only check how many you’ve earned from time to time. This way, one day, you’ll be surprised by how many points you’ve accumulated, and you will have access to a variety of perks for the special members.

Okay, so what are the benefits of different status levels?

Blue

If you have just joined Uber’s loyalty program, you will probably become a Blue Uber Rewards member, though if you’ve been using Uber frequently, you might become a Gold, Platinum, or even a Diamond member. That’s because when you join Uber Rewards, the system will check how many points you’ve earned over the last six months.

However, if you are just starting your adventure with Uber, you’ll become a Blue member. The users with this status don’t receive any rewards yet. In order to get many useful perks, you need to reach at least 500 points. That’s when your status will be upgraded to “Gold”.

Gold

Once you have earned 500 points, you will become eligible for special perks. If you use Uber or other ride-sharing services frequently, then you have probably had to cancel your ride at least once. It happens especially often if you need transport for a group of people and you decide to go somewhere else at the last minute.

Normally, you would have to pay the cancellation fee, which is $5. If you have Gold status, you can cancel your ride 3 times in a month if you order another ride in a period of 15 minutes. It applies only to some types of rides – it’s best to check what are the rules in your area.

Also, if you become a Gold member, you’ll have a higher priority while contacting the customer service. This way, you won’t have to wait as much to talk to the Uber representative.

Platinum

When you accumulate 2500 points, you’ll be eligible for the Platinum rank. One of the most important perks that the Platinum members can use is price protection. If you often need a ride when the demand is particularly high, your fare might be multiplied due to something called “surge pricing”. On the screen of your smartphone, next to the estimated fare, you’ll see a symbol of lightning indicating that the price is multiplied because many people need rides and there are not enough drivers.

If you become a Platinum member, you won’t have to worry about surge pricing between two places of your choosing – the amount of money that you’ll have to pay is going to be the same, regardless of the time of the day. Platinum members also won’t have to fear that they’ll have to wait a long time for a ride. That’s because Platinum members are prioritized during times of high demand. On top of that, if you earn 2500 points and become a Platinum member, you’ll also be eligible for the Gold status level perks.

Diamond

To earn the Diamond status, you’ll have to toil for quite a bit, as users who earn 7500 points are eligible for this rank. As well as all the previously mentioned perks, the Diamond members have access to specially trained customer service representatives. If you reach the Diamond rank, you’ll be able to contact them at any time, as this service is available 24/7, though that’s just the beginning.

Normally, to access the best drivers you would have to choose more costly Uber rides. However, if you are a Diamond member, you can choose UberX and you’ll still be picked up by drivers who have extensive experience and have inspected vehicles. From time to time, you might get a surprise upgrade to your car, at no cost for you. On top of that, you can order Uber Eats 3 times in a 6-month period without having to pay for the delivery costs.

Remember that the status level that you have earned will be valid for the current spending cycle and the next one. That’s why you don’t need to worry about losing your perks if you stop using Uber for a short period of time.
