What We Do

HyreCar is a web-based open platform that integrates the sharing economy with on-demand services. Our dual-sided marketplace allows vehicle owners to earn money on their idle assets while providing access to reliable options for drivers looking to rent.

Through our platform, car owners can list their vehicles and connect to potential renters. Drivers can select to rent by the day, week, or month for on-demand service companies such as Uber, Lyft, Postmates and more.

The Driving Force

Provide access to reliable transportation at transparent prices.

Automobiles are listed as the most underutilized asset. At the same time, desire for employment within the on-demand economy continues to grow. Nearly 24% of drivers for services such as Uber and Lyft don’t have access to qualified vehicles while at the same time many personal cars remain in storage collecting dust. Our platform helps vehicle owners earn returns on their investment and promotes opportunity by helping drivers enter into the car-share work force.

Drive towards financial freedom with HyreCar.

The Story

In 2015, Co-founder Andy attempted to sign on as an Uber driver only to discover that his car did not qualify. Searching for suitable options within classified ads and online forums yielded very little. Realizing the need for a centralized marketplace for car listings, search and rental, Andy decided to create one.

HyreCar was created as a peer-to-peer service to connect car owners with prospective renters. Instead of having to purchase a brand new car, drivers can browse and select a vehicle model that qualifies with car-sharing requirements.

Company Profile

Overview

HyreCar is a privately owned vehicle rental platform that allows owners to list their cars for drivers looking to rent. Through the peer-to-peer marketplace, owners can set their own rates and drivers can browse a catalog of available options. Car owners benefit from returns on their idle assets whereas drivers gain access to a fleet of vehicles for personal use or towards ride-sharing services such as Uber and Lyft.

HyreCar formed in 2014 when founder Andy Bansal was trying to drive for Uber but was rejected because his car did not qualify. He searched for a car to use but realized that there was no central resource for drivers to rent cars in a reliable and flexible way. The available options at the time were limited to classified ads or to borrow from a friend. This posed high risk and little returns for vehicle owners and renters. From here, Andy decided to create a centralized marketplace for owners to list and drivers to rent qualified vehicles for the on-demand economy safely and securely.

HyreCar addresses two pain points – the underutilization of automobiles and the demand for cars qualified to function in the on-demand economy.

Operations

HyreCar services are available nation-wide with cars available from Alaska to Florida and places in between. However the majority of our vehicle inventory is located in hubs such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and Dallas.

We are a marketplace so anyone can submit their car for rental from anywhere in the U.S. Our service is currently operating in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Jersey, Nevada, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and is expanding.

One of our founders, Andy, was trying to drive for Uber but was unable to use his car because it didn't qualify. He tried to find a car to use but found there was no centralized marketplace for drivers to rent cars. The only option was to search craigslist or ask if someone had a car he could use. Andy figured, why not create a centralized marketplace to offer Uber and Lyft qualified vehicles for potential drivers. Thus began the birth of HyreCar.

In The Media

“Just as Airbnb allows property owners to rent their homes or apartments – thereby unlocking value in an underused asset – HyreCar’s founders say their service will allow vehicle owners to squeeze some value from their vehicle when it might otherwise be sitting in the driveway.”

“Others further afield, like Lyft’s network partner from India, Ola, also have built out rental programs to equip drivers with better cars. And there are other companies like HyreCar that exist solely to rent vehicles to drivers on these services.”

“HyreCar matches drivers who need a car with individuals looking to rent out their under-utilized vehicles -- a kind of Airbnb for cars.”

“HyreCar is a startup that mashes up the sharing economy and on-demand economy.”

“HyreCar offers to lease vehicles to would-be Uber and Lyft drivers in multiple cities around the country.”

“HyreCar, an app that helps car owners rent out their vehicles to Uber drivers.”
